Sometimes, it doesn’t even take a cursory turn on the auction block. I’ve begun to think of this as straight-to-storage art. It’s a funny term in that it encompasses both work that never sells and maybe never garners any interest at all, as well as work whose primary function is as a unit of inflated value.
