We're about a month away from the most consequential midterm elections of my lifetime. In Texas, Representative Beto O'Rourke — a former punk rocker who used to be in a band called Foss with Cedric Bixler-Zavala, before Bixler-Zavala formed At The Drive-In and the Mars Volta — seems to have a pretty good chance of knocking off actual human worm Ted Cruz. Last month, O'Rourke referenced the Clash's "Clampdown" at a debate with Cruz. And this past weekend, one of the best bands from Texas covered that very song at an O'Rourke rally. On Sunday night, O'Rourke spoke to a big crowd at the Buffalo Springs Festival, a get-out-the-vote effort in Dallas, as Brooklyn Vegan points out.
